Hey guys! This week there is no topic so I will just be doing a free blog. This free blog is on a PSA I saw on TV about cigarettes. I decided to do a blog on this because we should be finishing up our PSAs really soon. This is a great PSA because it’s clever and it gets it’s point across easily within the thirty second time limit. The message of this PSA is not to let cigarettes take over your life. At the beginning a girl is making all these promises, but you don't exactly find out who she is talking to until it's reaching the end. As the PSA develops you understand that the whole time she was promising cigarettes, that they now control her life and she gives her freedom to them. In the end there is a piece of paper and it looks like a contract that rolls up into a cigarette. Then a voiceover comes on explaining that every cigarette is a contract and you are signing away parts of your life. It's a little difficult to explain, so I will put it below so you can check it out. I think this is very clever, but very effective and explains what cigarettes do to you well. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoyed!
Hey guys! This week I will be writing about the phrase "Good to Great" that we use in our media class. To me, good to great means that the job you did or are doing is pretty good, but you can do a lot to improve. In my opinion even if you improve, there is always more you can do to make it better. Three things I can do to go from good to great this quarter is be prepared for everything, make corrections on anything that can be improved, and practice for STN.
The first thing that I can do to go from good to great this quarter is be prepared all the time, for things like morning announcements, my PSA, and my blogs or vlogs. For morning announcements, I can have my scripts checked and printed out the day before the broadcast, and this will allow a lot of time for us to practice and get it right. To go from good to great on my PSA I should know all of deadlines so I will be on time which will allow me to get a better grade. By being prepared for my blogs or vlogs I will know what to write or talk about before I start my blogs or vlog. This can help me go from good to great. I can also apply this to my school work outside of media.
To go from good to great this quarter I can make any corrections on any of my projects like, radio or morning announcement scripts, PSA drafts, and advisory games. When I finish a draft of any of my projects I’m going to show them to Mr. M and if he has any corrections to make or if there are things that can be improved I will fix them. This will get me a better grade and it will make my work even better, from good to great.
The last thing that can help me from good to great this quarter is practice for STN. Practicing will help us be prepared for the actual competition and we will know what to do. We've gotten in a few practices already and we have a few more coming up soon. Kate and I actually had an extra practice than everyone else which will help prepare us next year when Kolten is not here. Practicing will hopefully make our actual competition video not just goo d but great.
This quarter I can go from good to great by being prepared for everything, make any corrections that I can to improve my video, and practice for STN. To me good to great means that you are already doing a pretty decent job, but you can improve it and make it great. Thanks for reading!
Hey guys! This weeks topic is about the morning announcements that we have taken over completely for the rest of the year. Mr. M wants us to write about 3 things that we can do to make the announcements the best they can be. To make announcements great, we can have our scripts checked and printed at least a day before they are needed, show up on time, and as much as possible especially on game days. These are just a few things we can do, and there are many more.
One thing that we can do to make the announcements the best they can be is to have both scripts checked with Mr. M before the day of the broadcast. If we do this it will minimize the mistakes in the scripts which makes the announcements better too. Also, have the scripts printed at least the day before the broadcast and laid out in the rooms and put in the teleprompters. We should do this because if we happen to come late (which we shouldn’t) the scripts will be there and they can make titles and you aren’t stressing out because you weren’t prepared.
Another thing that will really make announcements better is if everyone shows up on time. Not just the announcers but the rest of the crew too. This means everyone is in by 7:15 am or earlier. With everyone in on time we will get in more practices which will make the actual announcements a lot better. It also gives the titler time to make the titles with enough time to practice too. Then the announcements should run a lot smoother and it won't look like we were unprepared.
Finally, we should all be practicing as much times as we possibly can because then the announcers will know what they have to say. Also, the behind the scenes people also need to know when to do certain things. For example the technical director needs to know when to switch, and the people manning the cameras need to know when to pull the paper. Everyone needs to practice to make the broadcast to look nice, especially on game days. When we have kahoot games on Fridays, everyone needs to practice because we are adding a lot more to the broadcast than usual.
Of course there are many more things we can do to improve announcements or to make them look the best, but these are just a few very important ones, in my opinion. We should always print out our scripts the day before the broadcast and come on time if you are working the morning announcements. Everyday we should be practicing as much as we can too. Anyways thanks for reading!
Happy new year everyone! This week I’m going to be sharing my new goals for this quarter with you guys and reflecting back on my goals last quarter to see if I met them. One of my goals that I had last quarter was to meet all my deadlines and I think we did meet all of our deadlines. I set this goal to get Taylor and I good grades. Another one of my goals for the second quarter was to get in multiple drafts of our video and we did achieve it and got in multiple rough cuts which helped our grade, which is why I set it in the first place. The last goal I had last quarter was to be a good mentor. I really hope I achieved that one because Taylor will be all by herself on her PSA. I will help her if she needs help though, but if I achieved my goal she won't need much help.
My first goal for this quarter is to make multiple drafts of my PSA before the actual deadline because with multiple drafts you can make your final rough cut a lot better. It will also get me a better grade on the final project too. With making multiple drafts I can get feed back from Mr. M and I can fix my video which might get it entered in Olelo if it's good enough. To do this I will have to be early on all my deadlines so I have time to make multiple drafts.
My second goal for the quarter is to not procrastinate. This means not waiting to d my blogs, scripts, editing, or anything else at the last minute. Not only will I not procrastinate on my third quarter project, but on my radios and my 4th quarter project too. This quarter I will be making a PSA and I am done with my T.I.A.S.M (Topic Issue Angle Story) which means I beat the deadline, so if there are any changes that need to be done I have enough time to fix them and make the deadline. I’m starting off pretty well with not procrastinating so far, and I hope it lasts the rest of the quarter.
My last goal is to come up with a great fourth quarter project idea and have it set by the time we leave for STN. Since PSA’s don’t take up as much time as news stories we should be done with our PSA before the end of the quarter and I we will start our fourth quarter project. Before we leave for STN I want to have my idea approved by Mr. M and my T.I.A.S done as well. It would also be wonderful if I could start working on my first rough cut of my script. By achieving this goal I would be prepared for the fourth quarter, and hopefully it will be like this for the whole fourth quarter, and I will get a good grade.
Overall, my goals are to turn in multiple drafts of my PSA, These are my goals for the third quarter and I really hope I am able to achieve them. Also, for the second quarter I met my first goal, which was to meet all deadlines, and I also met my second goal of getting in multiple drafts of my video. I'm not exactly sure if I met my last goal from last quarter which was to be a good mentor, but I really hope so. Thanks for reading! Bye!
