Hey guys! This week’s free write is on, of course, a disney related film. It’s a short film, called Disney as told by emoji. This is a really cool idea because they take Disney characters and turn them into emojis. Then they summarize a whole Disney movie, into three to four minutes, and they only use emojis! The story is so clear, I watched the “Star Wars the Force Awakens as Told by Emoji” and I understood all of it. So, if you read on, I will be explaining what I enjoy about these short films. I will also post a few of my favorite Disney as told by emoji videos below.
One of the things that I find very cool about these videos is that it is so creative! I would have never thought of telling a story with emojis. In these videos the characters don’t even speak. They use emojis to explain things like, the thumbs up and down sign if something was good or bad. I also think that having those reply bubbles from the IPhone, when the person you are texting is texting back was really cute. It shows a lot of resemblance to an IPhone.
I also really like the animation in these films as well. Although, I am not surprised that the quality is so good because all of their movies have very good animation. Besides that, I find it amazing that they could explain their story so well in just four minutes or less. Honestly when I write short stories for school I write a lot.
These are some things I enjoy about Disney as told by emoji. I think that this is so creative and different because no one would think of making a video out of emojis. I will post some of the videos below so you can check it out. Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed. Bye!!

Hey guys! My free blog for this week is going to be on another movie coming out soon, called “Sing”. I first saw this movie trailer when I went to a movie this summer with Taylor. It looked really funny and I just had to do a blog on this. It stars a bunch of famous singers such as, Tori Kelly and many more. All the characters in the movie are talking cartoon animals. It’s basically about a koala that holds a singing competition, that everyone in the city is allowed to compete in. A bunch of different animals want to become singers but others don’t believe in them. Anyways, if you continue to read you will be reading about what I enjoyed about the trailer that’s media related.
One of the things that I thought was really cool about this trailer was that you can kind of relate to some of the characters. For instance, there is a gorilla and he wants to be a singer instead of a criminal like his father. But, his father makes him be a criminal until his dad ends up in prison. I can relate to this because my parents wanted me to play soccer, but I didn’t really want to. Until I became apart of media and it was quite time consuming and I have eye surgery coming up soon, so I have to take a break. Another, character that people may find things in common with is the pig. She is a mother and is unsure if her dream of becoming a singer is still possible. People may have goals that they think is too late to achieve now, but it isn’t. I think it’s really smart to have characters that the audience can relate too.
I also have to say that this movie has wonderful characters. It looks really funny and I can’t wait to watch it. I will post the trailer below so you can check it out. I hope you enjoyed this week’s blog post! Thanks for reading!
Hey guys! The required blog topic for this week is the three hardest things I had to do in media this year so far. For me, editing and recording radios were hard for me, along with morning announcements, and our first quarter project. Some of these don't’ seem very hard, but we haven’t been given many tasks. If you read on you will see why these things were challenging for me.
The first thing that was really challenging for me was recording radios. Since I am the returning partner I have to write and edit another radio. So, that just added extra work for me to do. Did I mention we had to record each radio twice! The first time we recorded we used regular mics and a zoom recorder. But, the audio sounded really weird and we had to do it again. The second time we recorded we had to use the Yeti because Kolten and Napua were recording voiceovers with the equipment we used before. The only thing with the Yeti is that it records straight into Audacity so if you accidentally delete it you can’t get it back, at all. I actually deleted our Wednesday radio on accident, which meant we had to record the same radio for the third time. I felt really bad because I made Taylor M. record over and over again.
Morning announcements wasn’t that hard, I just had to get back into the swing of things. I was assigned technical director which is the person that switches the cameras between announcers. The part I would screw up when we practiced was putting the right camera on preview. I didn’t know which announcer would start or I would forget and put the wrong announcer on preview. Another, thing I screwed up while we were practicing was putting the camera on program instead of preview. I always got that part mixed up, so while we played the intro, the camera would switch when it’s not supposed to. Thankfully that was just during practice and I didn’t ruin the actual announcements.
Another, thing that is giving me a hard time is my first quarter project. If you don’t know, Taylor N. and I are working on a news story on, big chain businesses versus small local businesses. I will post a link to my project page below if you want to check it out. Anyways, Taylor and I have been having a hard time getting interviews and getting permission to shoot b-roll. Taylor keeps calling places and they don’t answer, or they say “no”, or they say “we are closed that day” when they really aren’t. We are thinking that after school one day we might just interview teachers, as customers of big chain businesses. So they can explain why they enjoy shopping at these places. Also, we need to balance it out and not make these big chain companies sound bad. We are also really struggling on getting interviews with local businesses that are affected by the big companies.
As you can see, it’s been quite a challenging first few weeks for me. With recording radios, to morning announcements, and our first quarter project. Don’t forget to look for my free blog. It will probably posted tomorrow. I hope you enjoyed reading! Bye!
Hey guys! This week’s blog topic is on our progress with our summer projects. Mr.M decided to change things up a bit this year. The news story we worked on in the summer camp will now be our first quarter project. Taylor N. and I managed to make a rough cut during the summer, but it still needs quite a bit of work. The due date has also been pushed up to September 16. I think we are not exactly on schedule, we are more halfway there. We still need to film more b-roll, film more interviews, and edit our video along with re-recording voiceovers.
One reason I feel we are a bit behind is because we still need to film a lot of b-roll. Most of our b-roll is from Puka Dogs, but since Carter and Erik are doing their story on Puka Dogs, the Hiki No editors said that we shouldn't use their interviews. Our b-roll from Puka dogs is the only b-roll we have because during the summer camp our time was very limited. Also, we need to balance out the 2 sides to make it fair, and I’m not sure if these big businesses will let us film them. So I am a little nervous about that part. We plan on hopefully filming this next week. We would have filmed sooner it’s just that Taylor N. and I both signed up to do the Inside Scoops early. Her’s were due last week and mine were due on Thursday.
Another thing that is really important that we get is, interviews. We do have some interviews, but they lean more towards the small local businesses, we have to balance them out. So, we need to interview customers of the big chain businesses such as, Costco, Walmart, and more. I’m not that worried about that because many people on the island are consumers of these big businesses. I really hope we will have enough time to film a few more interviews on local businesses as well. Taylor N. and I also plan on hopefully filming next week if not the week after that.
The last reason why I feel we are a little behind is because we still need to edit the video, after we do all of that and we need to re-record some voiceovers. It’s really nerve wracking because we only have 3 weeks left till we turn in our second rough cut. Before we can even start editing, we need to get all filming done. Also, we have to re-record one of our voiceovers because you can hear background noise. I’m not that worried about that because voiceovers aren’t very time consuming, mostly editing because that is the last step and it takes a while. We plan on editing and re-recording voiceovers probably the last or second to last week till we have to turn in a rough cut.
As you can see, we are pretty behind with our first quarter project. So we really have to bust our butts these next few weeks. We have to film more b-roll, film more interviews to balance it out, and edit and re-record voiceovers. Anyways I hope you enjoyed this week’s blog. If you want to see some of the other students blogs there are links to their blogs on the CKTV website. I have a link to the CKTV website on my home page, but to make it easier I will just put a link down below as well. Thanks for reading!
Hey guys! This week’s free blog is on the movie “Moana”. I am really excited to see this because it’s Disney of course, and because the voice of Moana, Auil’i Cravalho is from Oahu. I find that very cool because not many stars are from Hawaii! Moana and Maui are the two main characters of the movie. You already know the voice of Moana, and the voice of Maui is Dwayne Johnson, better known as “The Rock”. The movie “Moana” is about a demigod, Maui and his adventures with Moana. They travel across the sea, although I am unsure what for. By looking at the trailer I can tell that Moana just kind of tags along and Maui tries to kick her off of his voyage, but it obviously doesn’t work. Also, Moana will be the first Polynesian Disney Princess! That’s right, she is not Hawaiian, other blogs say that it is a Hawaiian movie given Maui’s name. But Maui fro the South Pacific was actually a legend before the one in Hawaii. If you don’t believe me you can go check out the website I learned this from, I will post a link down below and the trailers. So, if you read on, I will be talking about all the cool animation details that I think will make this movie very entertaining and what I think make good characters and why I believe these are wonderful characters.
The first thing that I find super cool is Maui’s tattoos, his tattoos actually come to life. They simply tell a story on his body. It’s really funny and unique, I think that was a really creative choice they made and it adds to the story to show how Maui is a real demigod. Adding that feature probably made it harder for them to animate and they did a really well job animating the tattoos and the characters. I think the hardest character to animate would be Maui because he has the tattoos and he is a shapeshifter! He does change his form in some parts of the movie. He does that in the movie trailer and it looks so cool. Here is the trailer so you can see what I am talking about.
Now that you’ve hopefully seen the trailer you can see what kind of princess Moana is. She isn’t like Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty, she is more like my favorite Disney Princess Mulan. I like Mulan because she is super tough and strong. Moana seems really tough and confident because when Maui throws her off the boat she jumps right back on and doesn’t take no for an answer. I think that also makes this character a whole lot different and special from the other princesses. Maui is also a unique character, he is so funny and crazy! Well, that’s just based off the movie trailer. I love it when he does the whole cultural dance thing because that’s literally me every time I think something is funny or cool. For example, my Janice impression from “Friends”, most people look at me like there is something seriously wrong with me. So that is really relatable for me. This paragraph wasn’t so much media related then the last one, but I decided to add it in so you could get to know me a little more.
Anyways that’s all for this week’s free blog I hope you enjoyed! Some of the other “Moana” trailers or videos will be posted down below. Along with the link to a website that I got a lot of information about this movie from so you can go check that out. Don’t forget to look for my blog on the given topic, which is on our summer projects. Thanks for reading! Bye!
Casting Moana (Auli'i Cravalho)
Hey guys! This week’s free write is on a movie I saw this summer, “Grease Live”. It’s a remake of the original “Grease” but with new generation stars. The cool thing about it is they filmed all of it in one take. Also, what I enjoyed about it is they had a bunch of former Disney Channel stars. If you know me you would know I am a huge Disney fanatic! I will post a video down below of one of my favorite songs from the movie.
The first thing about “Grease Live” that I found really cool is that they filmed it all in one take. Like I’m pretty sure the movie was an hour to an hour and a half and all the shots were really smooth. If you are in the media class, imagine running the morning announcements for an hour and a half except, you constantly move the cameras. Do you know how hard that is? Sometimes we screw up the announcements and it’s only a few minutes long. Also, imagine trying to switch settings, and the characters are constantly changing outfits. Sometimes they would have to change outfits in the middle of a song. On another blog I read that they had to use golf carts to get from set to set. So I thought that was really interesting and cool, here is the video!
If what I said in the last paragraph did not make sense and you watched the video before reading this then you would know what I was talking about. Now, you see how smooth the cameras are, and how they change scenes and costumes so fast. If you would like to watch it and you have Netflix, it’s on there. Anyways that’s all for this week’s free write. I hope you enjoyed! Bye!
Hey Guys! I am back doing my first blog for the new school year! Before I get into the blog, I just wanted to let you guys know who my super awesome, fantabulous, and incredible partner is. It’s Taylor McCann!! She is a seventh grader at CKMS and she is new to the media class. I will post a link to her website below. Anyways this week’s blog topic is on my goals for the new school year! Since I am now a mentor I have a few new goals than I did from last year. My three new goals for the school year are, I want to become a good mentor, I want to turn in all my work on time, and I want to bond with all of the newbies.
One of my goals this year is to become a good mentor or partner. If you guys read my blogs last year you would know I was a the newbie and this is my first year being a mentor. I am really nervous about mentoring a new student because I am responsible for teaching her how to do things like the Inside Scoops, editing in Final Cut, making a script and so much more. I don’t want to be the reason why she gets a bad grade because I didn’t teach her how to do something. For me to be a good partner I need to bond with Taylor, so I am really looking forward to getting to know her because as partners we will be spending a lot of time together. Hopefully this partnership will go as well as last years and we will become great friends. So my goal is to be a great partner to Taylor and to help any other new students who need help.
My second goal is to get good grades and turn in all of my work on time including blogs, Inside Scoops, Scripts, and Projects. The first deadline I will be struggling to meet is my first Inside Scoops of the year because Taylor and I were the second pair of partners to sign up! Which means our radios are due next week. But besides that I really want to make sure all of our projects are turned in on time and we don’t procrastinate! Newbies if you are reading this don’t procrastinate because it will really hurt you and possibly your grade. You will hear that a lot and it is true! It is a huge deal for me to turn everything in on time because this will help me get a better grade and I want to get A’s in this class. Since my parents are both teachers they insist I get good grades. If I get a bad grade I will probably get grounded and that means no Netflix, which means no “Friends”, which leads to sad and bored Mia. I’m joking, but seriously no Netflix! Also, good grades are just something you want to have because it can help you in the future. I plan on achieving this goal by starting everything earlier or on time and not getting sidetracked by another task or TV.
My last goal for the year is to bond and get to know my classmates. New students you will constantly here Mr.M say this “We are the CKTV Ohana” and that is true. Last year I became friends with so many 8th graders and I am sad that they are no longer in this class. You will get the best possible friends in this class, so don’t be shy. I also want to be great friends with all the new students because I want them to feel comfortable asking people for help. This year I get to help new students, like all the 8th and 7th graders helped me last year. Hopefully I will be able to bond with them at the Kokee camp, which we will be doing this year.
These are my new goals for this school year, to be a good partner, meet all of the deadlines, and to bond with my classmates. I hope you enjoyed this week’s blog post don’t forget to look on my website for my free blog post later on this week. Also, look for the link to Taylor’s website below. Thanks for reading! Bye!
