Hey everyone! There are only a few more weeks left of school, which means we will be saying goodbye to some of our students. But that means we will be gaining more students as well. New students this is for you, this weeks blog topic is media advice. One of the biggest pieces of advice that will really help you in this class is don't procrastinate. Procrastination is one piece of advice that every student in this class will probably write about this week. Also, always put away equipment, that is very crucial unless you like getting yelled at. Finally, be ice to all classmates. For some of you, they will be with you all three years, you want to make friends not enemies.
First, procrastination, that is a huge thing in this class. Students always procrastinate with their projects and blogs. For example, I waited till Friday to do my free blog and a constructive response blog. So I am doing it really late in the week. A lot of students including me have procrastinated on their projects. Trust me, the fourth quarter will probably be the quarter you procrastinate the most. You think you have so much time because you start before the trip and you keep putting work off. Don't forget if you are an 8th grade student just coming into the class you also have to work on the eighth grade slide show. For the past few years, many of the eighth graders have waited till the fourth quarter to really start the slideshow.
Also, always put away equipment!!!! Mr. M gets very angry when you forget to put away equipment. Leaving out cameras, microphones, batteries you name it. A few times this year our class almost wasn't allowed to take any equipment home because we left it out. You don't want to get to the point where you can't sign out cameras, or your laptop or anything. It is very hard to do well on your project if you can only film in school, plus you can't edit your video at home.
Finally, treat your classmates the way you wanted to be treated. You will be with these students for a whole year and many will be staying for more years to come. It may be hard to work with certain people for STN or just partner for fourth or first quarter. But just take deep breathes and talk and work things out. Also remember, try not to yell at them and take control. If you need them to focus ask them nicely or get their attention by making them laugh. Just try to be nice to them even if they aren't your favorite person in the world or you aren't their's.
Thank you guys for reading this blog. New students I hope you can benefit from this advice and it helps you next year. This class is amazing and it allows you to make amazing friends. Don't forget to read my free blog. Bye!!!!
