Hey everyone! This week I will be doing a free blog on the "Evan" PSA. This is an amazing PSA because it brings attention to what is going on in other peoples lives. The PSA starts off with a boy and a girl that grow to really like each other, but what you don't expect is that there is a boy with a bunch of guns that is going to shoot their school. Then, they replay the video for you and you can see a boy in the back of each scene looking at guns, or playing with toy guns. The reason you may not notice the boy the first time is because he is not the main focus of the video, he is in the background. Maybe if someone noticed, the shooting could have been prevented. This PSA has a very good message and they get the point across really well. Thanks for reading!
Hey guys! This week's blog topic is the three most important things that I've learned this school year in media. One really important thing to know is that communication is key in any partnership. Also, be confident in yourself and your team/partner,
One important lesson that I've learned this school year is that communication is key in any partnership. If you don't communicate you will never be on the same page, and no work will get done. Also, if you are a mentor don't expect your partner to know what to do, teach them and show them what to do.
Another important lesson that I've learned this school year is that you need to be confident in yourself and others, otherwise you might be setting you and your team up for failure. You have to trust that your team knows what they are doing, and that you know what you are doing.
The last lesson that I've learned this year that I think is very important is to listen to everyone's ideas and don't take criticism too harsh. You may have an amazing idea, but if there is a better idea and your idea is not chosen don't take it personally.
The three most important lessons I've learned this year was communication is very important, be confident in yourself and other, and not to take criticism too hard. Thanks for reading!
Hey everyone! As you know the school year is coming to an end, which means our CKTV family night is coming up very soon. It's on Wednesday, May 24th. I love family night because it gives us a chance to meet the new students, and it might give them and idea of what the class will be like. Anyways, every student in our class gets to pick a video that they made this school year to show to everyone, and you have to go up and explain a little bit about the video that you chose. This year I will be presenting my PSA, "It's Really That Simple".
One reason I chose my PSA is because I think it's my best video I created all year. Plus, I got a better grade on this project than on any other project I made this year. I think my PSA will be able to let the new students know what kind of work is expected in this class, better than any other video I worked on.
Another reason why I chose this video for family night is because it was nominated for Olelo and I am quite proud of it. Even though it didn't win first place, it's good to know that it was at least third place. Plus, it was the only quarter project that I got a 4 on.
The last reason why I chose my PSA is because when I introduce my PSA I can explain that the reason I got a 4 was because I made multiple drafts, that I actually didn't procrastinate. I got feedback and made all corrections till I got it right before the deadline.
I will be showing my PSA at family night because I think it's the best video I made this year, I'm proud of it, and I worked really hard on it. Family night is on May 24th. If you want to see my PSA I will put a link to my third quarter project page. Thank you for reading!
Hey everyone! This week I will be doing a free blog on the Olelo Youth Exchange banquet. The banquet was this week Thursday, and Kolten, Napua, Taylor M, and I went. My water conservation PSA and my Dennis Fujimoto news story was nominated. Kolten's PSA was nominated, and Napua and Kolten's Drag Racing Sakamoto's news story too. We took and early flight to Oahu and arrived earlier than the banquet, so we went to PBS Hawaii's studio and got a tour from Nikki. After, we went straight to the banquet, and they served a brunch and starting announcing the first place winners. The banquet was quite long because they announce winners for elementary school, middle school, and high school, and there are many different categories. None of the videos that we were nominated for, won first place, but at least we made top 3 out of all the videos entered in that category. Even though we did not win first place, it was a really great experience. Since our flight didn't leave until 7:30 we went to the mall and got to see Kaycee! She was my partner last year, and it was great to catch up with her. If you want to see my videos that were nominated, I will put a link to watch them below. Thanks so much for reading!

Hey everyone! This week's blog is going to be a fourth quarter project update. I am on the videography team, and I am working with Taylor Nishimoto. We are assigned to do stories on Ono Pops and the Kealia Farm Market. In this blog post I will be listing the things we have done for our project, what I will be doing to make progress, and what are some obstacles in our way.
Some things that we have done is interview Ono Pops, and transcribe their interviews. We also finished our five points and started working on our script for Ono Pops. I also scheduled another day that we can go back to film more b-roll of Ono Pops. For the Kealia Farm Market video we have made questions to ask them, and Taylor has been trying to get in touch with the person in charge. We haven't gotten an answer back and we've been contacting him everyday.
To make progress we will make sure we get an answer from the Kealia people. Once we get that interview done we will make sure that it gets transcribed right away. Then we will work on the script and edit. For Ono Pops, we will make sure multiple drafts of our script are made, and that we start editing very soon.
One big obstacle that is in our way is not getting an answer from the Kealia Farm Market people. We have been contacting them a lot, and the first time we emailed them they replied, but they haven't replied to see if the day we want to interview them is alright with them. Without that interview we can't transcribe, work on the script, or edit.
Those are some things we've done, what we will do to make progress, and some obstacles that are in our way. We really need to make sure we get moving on these videos. I hope you guys liked this week's blog! Bye!!!
Hey everyone! We just came back from STN last week, and in this week's blog I will be talking about my favorite three moments from the trip. I loved the closing ceremonies, Disneyland, and Universal Studios.
One thing that I loved at STN was the closing ceremonies. It's a lot of fun because they play loud music and everyone is so excited and dancing. Plus, that's when we find out if we won any awards. When you win something, you feel amazing and that's when you know that all of that work payed off.
Another thing that we did that was super fun, was going to Disneyland. My favorite ride was either California Screaming or the Grizzly Bear ride. It was so much fun going on all of those rides and the churros there are so good! We also went on Splash Mountain, Hyperspace Mountain, and Thunder Mountain. While we were there we also did this workshop/tour where we learn about how they create Disney movies. On that tour we got to ask Crush the turtle from, “Finding Nemo” some questions, and the animated character would actually answer. They also taught us how to draw Eeyore from, “Winnie the Pooh”.
The last thing that I am going to write about is going to Universal Studios. All of the rides were a lot of fun. My favorite was the Harry Potter ride, but the other rides were fun too. Like the “Simpson’s” ride, the “Jurassic Park” ride, and the “Transformers” ride. The tour was really cool too because they had us wear 3D glasses and made the bus shake and everything. They showed us how they did a fake flood and a fake fire. We got to see cars that they actually used in “The Fast and the Furious” movies.
My three favorite things we did on the STN trip was the closing ceremonies, going to Disneyland, and going to Universal Studios. Look at my classmates blogs to see what their favorite moments were. Thanks for reading! Bye!
Hey guys! Next week we are heading off to Anaheim! This week we were asked to talk about the three things we are looking forward to most at STN. There are so many things that I am excited for and it's very hard to choose just three things. I am really looking forward to seeing my pen pal, competing and the closing ceremonies, and going to all of the theme parks.
I am very eager to see my pen pal, Beth, when we go to STN because I've talked to her a lot and I just can't wait to see her in person. Not only am I excited to see her, but there are some other Castaic students that I've talked to and I can't wait to see them in person too. I am also looking forward to seeing if my pen pal likes the gift I got for her.
Another thing I am really looking forward to is competing and the closing ceremonies. Competing is very thrilling because you get to go out into a place that you aren't comfortable in, and you have to find a story. It's not like on Kauai where you know a lot of people, which makes it more challenging because you have to talk to strangers. That's how you see how good you are at story telling. Plus, you are competing against other schools which makes it even more exciting. I love the closing ceremonies because all of the Hawaii schools sit together and we cheer each other on. We also get to see how we did and see if we won any awards.
The last thing I am excited for is going to all the theme parks. Last year, I was sick while we went to Six Flags so I only went on one ride. This year, I want to be sure not to get sick because I am really excited to go on a bunch of rides at Disney Land and Universal Studios. I don't think Warner Brothers Studio counts as a theme park, but I am really excited to go their as well. I love the show "Friends" and I am really hoping we will be able to see the set. Also, another show I like "The Voice" is filmed at Universal Studios and I really hope we see the set while on our tour.
I am looking forward to seeing Beth, competing and closing ceremonies, and going to the theme parks. I know I combined things together, but it's just that I couldn't choose only three. Check my website everyday, starting next week Thursday, to see what we are doing everyday at STN. Thanks for reading!
STN Blogs 2017
Hey everyone! We are coming close to our STN trip to Anaheim California! We are all getting ready, and we had our last practice for our competitions last week. Last week Friday, was our last actual convention category practice. Then on Sunday, we had our first and last Crazy 8's practice. I am on the Spot Feature team and I am on the Crazy 8's News Magazine team. Spot Feature has to find a story based off of a given topic in 5 hours. News Magazine has to put together a whole show filled with news stories, PSAs, and more based off of a given topic. In this week's blog I will be assessing our practices.
For Spot Feature, I think we've been doing pretty well. Kolten, Kate and I work well together, and I think we all know our roles by now and know what we have to do. I think our first practice was our best, probably because we only had to stay on campus for a story and that's easier than going out and looking for one. Also, for our last practice we had a bit different equipment, and our headphones broke so we weren't able to monitor audio. In Spot Feature I am usually the one filming the b-roll while Kolten and Kate write the 5 points and everything. It depends who does what when it comes to interviews because we try to match the interviewee's height with one of ours. I am also editing this year.
For the Crazy 8's News Magazine team I am one of the leaders of the news story teams. I lead Jasmine and Rayden because I have the most experience. Our job is to find a story based off of a topic in 6 hours and then add it in with the other videos to make one long news segment. Jasmine, Rayden and I had some trouble finding a story for our previous practice. We called a bunch of different people, and we ended up going down to the harbor and asking fisherman to do interviews. We didn't have a lot of time to film because we didn't find stories till it was pretty late. Our equipment was acting up too, which din't make our situation better.
To make sure or try to prevent these problems from happening at the actual convention we can make sure we make all of our deadlines. At STN we have to find a topic as fast as possible so it doesn't limit our filming time. We also have to cooperate with each other, especially for the Crazy 8's News Magazine team.
Hey guys! For our fourth quarter project this year the whole class will be managing Kauai Grown's social media accounts, and we will be making personal profiles on the farmers working there too. We will have to make teams that will be assigned certain jobs, like one team will be for making personal profiles, another will be the photography team and so on. I wanted to be on the videography team or the photography team, but many students in our class want to be on the photography team, so I signed up for the videography team. I feel I should be put on the videography team because I am willing to do the work, it will help me improve myself in making videos/personal profiles, and because I have experience in doing these and I think I can do a pretty good job.
One reason I feel l should be on the videography team for this project is because I am willing to do the work that it takes to make the videos. Making the personal profiles might be the most work out of the jobs, due to filming, editing, transcribing and everything else. I don't mind doing all of that because it will help me become better and
Another reason I feel I should be on the videography team is because it will help me improve myself in making these types of videos. I kind of already know what to do for these types of videos, but I can improve and be more comfortable and experienced. It will also help me be ready for STN 2018 because I will most likely be on Spot Feature again. Next year Kolten won't be there to help us, so I have to be ready to guide Kate (if she stays) and another student because I will probably have the most experience. I want to make sure I know what I'm doing, so we will do well at STN.
The last reason I think I should be on the videography team is because I have a bit more experience than some of the other students in the class that are first year students. I don't have as much experience as some of the three year eighth graders, but we do have a lot of new students this year. I think I will be able to do a pretty good job at making the personal profiles.
The three reasons I feel I should be on the videography team is because I am willing to do the work to make the videos, it will help me get better at making personal profiles, and because i have experience and I think I can do a pretty decent job. I hope you enjoyed reading this week's blog! Bye!
Hey guys! This week Tuesday our PSAs were due. For those that don't know I did my PSA on conserving water. I did my PSA on conserving water this year because people use water too much and don't think about the water we are wasting, and someday we will run out of clean water to use. By choosing this topic I am also giving my self a better chance at going to Olelo. If you want to see it I will put a link to my project page below. Anyways I'm sure you guessed that our blog topic this week is about our PSA. Mr. M wants us to write about wether or not we feel satisfied with our project. I actually do feel pretty satisfied with my project because I got multiple drafts before the final deadline, I feel that the message is clear, and I think the shots and the audio are pretty good. Below, I will be explaining in a little more detail one the reasons I am pleased with my PSA.
One reason I am satisfied with my project is because I got a few drafts in before the deadline. I didn't post all of them to my site but I checked my drafts with Mr. M and made corrections. I continued to make corrections and multiple drafts until I got my final draft approved by Mr. M. By making multiple drafts it allowed me to improve the quality of my video and at least I had something to submit by the deadline.
Another reason I am pleased with my project is because I feel I got the message across pretty well. My PSA is simple and not very hard to understand at all. The plot is just a girl that's washing her hands, and she realizes that she didn't turn off the faucet completely, so she goes and turns it off. Then the message fades on with the voiceover telling you to conserve water. With this PSA I am trying to get more people to turn off the water when they are not using it and to overall conserve it.
Lastly, I am satisfied with my PSA because I think the shots and the audio are pretty clear. Some of the shots could be better, but I am pretty happy with how most of the shots look. I also tried to get nat sounds of a person washing their hands and I struggled with capturing some audio. I finally got the audio to sound normal and not like there are jump cuts in it. But you can hear the water when it's supposed to be on, and the audio of the water stops when she turns off the water. You can also hear her scrubbing her hands together too. I tried to get as much nat sounds as possible and tried to match them with the visual, since I filmed them separately.
I am pleased with my PSA because I got in multiple drafts before the deadline, I feel I got the message across pretty well, and I think the shots and the audio are pretty nice and clear. I want to thank Taylor Nishimoto for being in my video. This is a link to my PSA a page so you can watch my PSA if you would like to. Thanks for reading!
